What Is Water Retention?

Our body is primarily composed of water which is normally kept finely in balance. Different factors can however cause our body to retain excess water and this is a very common health issue. Some of the most common causes of water retention are; hormonal imbalances, irregular menstrual cycles, long flights, eating too much salt in your food, genetics, medication, lack of physical activity or heart problems. Reports have shown that clients that are affected by excessive water retention feel heavier than normal, are less active, have stiff joints and can also have puffiness in the abdomen area, hips and face. Some sufferers also have bloating and swelling in the legs, ankles and feet as well as weight fluctuation.

How We Treat Water Retention

When it comes to water retention, at Ella Di Rocco we have a variety of treatments which in combination can maximise the effectiveness and make our patients feel better than ever before. There are some lifestyle changes that are required from the patient , but the hardest work will be done by us, and our clients can rest assured that they are in safe hands.

The most suitable treatment for the client will be assessed through an initial complimentary consultation.

Treatments for water retention:

Thalassotherapy

From the Greek thalasso meaning ‘sea’ and therapia meaning ‘treatment’, this uses the healing and beneficial properties of the sea and the marine environment for your health and wellbeing. Effective for draining excess water from the body, detoxing and slimming. Thalassotherapy also has amazing effects as a metabolic activator, as a reducer of swelling and is also most effective as an anti-cellulite treatment.

Radio Frequency

Is a non-invasive treatment that tightens, lifts and firms the skin. Unlike other treatments, Radio Frequency is a very relaxing treatment that increases the production of collagen and elastin fibre. During the treatment the skin temperatures reaches 40 C, resulting in smoother, tighter and younger-looking skin. Radio Frequency is able to deliver effective and visible results even from the first treatment.

Body Bandages

A fascinating ancient technique used to target specific areas of the body. Our bandage treatments can effectively remodel the silhouette, drain excess water, eliminate localised cellulite and fight adipose fat.

Pressotherapy

A medical and cosmetic treatment that uses air pressure on different areas of the body to improve lymphatic drainage. By alternating compression and decompression, it effectively stimulates the lymphatic system, causing the effects of appearance of cellulite and water retention to diminish.

Shockwave Therapy

An acoustic wave that enhances micro-circulation and oxygen supply to the affected areas, resulting in an increased blood supply and removal of excess fluid. This treatment is effective in removing the appearance of cellulite, reducing the circumference of thelegs, hips and arms as well as eliminating the factors that cause an uneven surface to the skin making it significantly smoother.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

This is a type of gentle massage which is intended to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart. Treatment must be combined with deep breathing.
